Offer: Paint-internal and external  (Gig Harbor-Xstreets Schoolhouse

Posted by: "fuzzbobbin" putnam.tom@gmail.com   fuzzbobbin

Sun Nov 22, 2009 11:49 pm (PST)

We've got 8 gallon cans of paint available for whomever can use it. The cans are 1/4 to 1/2 full I estimate. Two or three of the cans are external paint and the rest are internal. All are neutral or earth-type tones (no reds or yellows or such) except for one which is a medium blue and one which I believe is a dark green. Most of them are beiges or whites. Probably some of them are close enough in color that they could be mixed to make enough to paint a larger item/room. Take all or none, please.

All responders will be replied to.

Thanks.

Tom

ADMIN: Posting Reminders - Please take a moment to read!

Dear Tacoma Area Freecycle members,

We have nearly 6000 members! Way to go Tacoma Area Freecycle!

We have an assortment of topics to share with you, please read each short bit.

Because we are a recycling group, we want to reduce our carbon footprint upon the environment by including locations, on the subject line of each post, so our fellow Freecycle members can know how far they might have to travel.

Locations--Please put your home location on the subject line on each post. You may include areas you are willing to travel to in the body.

Just a reminder that Freecycle groups are recycling groups and are not meant to be your personal wish lists for everything you need. Generally 3-4 `Wanteds' per 7 days should be the maximum.

We ask that you keep your descriptions to the point and keep to a minimum the reasons you need/want the item. Please leave out explanations of hardship or need such as financial situation, unemployment status, disability, etc.

No phone numbers in posts. Exchange personal info in private emails only.

Lastly, please remember that the moderators are volunteers and are taking time out of their busy lives for the good of the group; treat them, as you would like to be treated.

Thanks everyone for being such a great group!

Your friendly Tacoma Area Freecycle Moderators,
Eevie & Debra

ADMIN: The holidays are coming/Freecycle as environmental group

Posted by: "TacomaAreaFreecycle-owner@yahoogroups.com" TacomaAreaFreecycle-owner@yahoogroups.com

Mon Nov 23, 2009 2:37 am (PST)

With the current economic condition of our country, we are all feeling
the pinch this holiday season. Due to this, and because of the
approaching holiday season, we want to remind all members that
that Tacoma Area Freecycle(TM) is a recycling/environmental group.

Freecycle is not a charity or a need-fulfilling organization. It is
not for wish lists. A happy side effect of our efforts is the fact
that many needs *are* met through the generosity of our members.
However, this is not the primary purpose of Freecycle. Freecycle
exists as a forum to help people give away items that they would
otherwise be throwing away. Our mission is to prevent still-usable
tangible items from going to the landfill.

To that end, all members of Freecycle are equal, and you do not need
to justify your request. A simple Wanted post is enough. Please leave
out explanations of hardship or need such as financial situation,
unemployment status, disability, etc.

When you want something and you turn to The Freecycle Network to find
it, you do not have to explain or justify your desire, you only need
to simply ask for it. The details of your personal life are no one's
business but your own, especially in a public group of nearly 6000
members.

Below are some examples of an appropriate and an
inappropriate post.

Appropriate:

Wanted: baby clothes (Tacoma)
I'm having a baby boy, and we could use some clothes. Thank you.

Not appropriate:

Desperately needed baby clothes and other things, Tacoma.
My boyfriend is in jail and I am on disability. And I have no idea
where we are going to get presents for the kids, plus I have another
one on the way. I can't pay my bills, and they are about to foreclose
on my house. I cry every day. Without Freecycle, my kids are going to
have no Christmas. Can you all help? I need baby clothes, food for a
Christmas dinner, candy for the stocking and two presents each for
our 15 kids.

Happy Holidays from your friendly Tacoma Area Freecycle moderators,
Eevie & Debra
