Hi all,
Due to the decline of our economy we have had a surge of 'Wanted' posts. For years, members have sent in complaints stating that there are too many 'Wanted' posts within our group; we have even lost members because of this ongoing issue.
Our group is one of the few in the area that have been very lax with `Wanted' posts in the past because we believe that these types of posts also fulfill our mission of keeping items out of the landfill. It does not make much sense to banish 'Wanted' posts to me. We continue to welcome 'Wanted' posts from our members because after-all, when a member answers a 'Wanted' post, they are also helping to keep items out of the landfill. We do, however, need to limit the amount of `Wanted' posts per week, as we do not want them to be the sole posts on our group.
WANTED POLICY: No more than 3 'Wanted' posts per 7 days (1 item per post) and you may not ask for the same item again for at least 14 days.
Today I would like to talk about 'blanket' wish lists...
A `blanket' wish list is a `Wanted' post that does not have a `specific' item listed that a member is looking for. These types of posts are getting out of hand as some members are getting around our *1 item per post* guideline by posting a 'blanket' list of items they are looking for. While this may seem harmless to some, it is becoming common practice and needs to be addressed.
As of today, we will NO LONGER allow 'blanket' wish lists to be posted to our group.
Here's a small example:
Wanted: toys (Tacoma)
Looking for any kind of toys you have.
Wanted: Outdoor items (Tacoma)
Looking for any kind of outdoor items (slides, swing set, lawn decorations, canopy, etc) you have.
Wanted: Baby items (Tacoma)
Looking for bottles, blankets, clothes, anything for a baby.
Wanted: Cd's (Tacoma)
Looking for any and all Cd's that you might have lying around.
Wanted: Video Tapes (Tacoma)
Looking for any unused videotapes that you no longer watch.
We realize that there are just some things that you cannot separate in order to `specifically' request one item. These posts will still be allowed on the list for now on a case-by-case basis until something else can be worked out (ask if in doubt).
One item that is most asked for is clothing. This is an item that would not be realistic to `specifically' request separate items for. Asking for `specific' sizes per `Wanted' post is the way to go. Fabric and Christmas or Halloween decorations are also items that are not practical to `specifically' request separately.
Do understand that as a member of this group, when you keep items out of landfills and/or recycle, your efforts are charitable to both the earth AND to future generations. This alone is reason to feel proud of any and all of your efforts.
Thank you for being such an awesome group!
