Posting in a Nutshell -- Quick and Easy Tips for Posting
Tacoma Area Freecycle(TM)

We have had so many new members join our group recently that we thought this might be a good time to post a reminder of our guidelines.
Post only tangible items that are free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.

1) SUBJECT LINES OF POSTS
Use only these keywords to make it easy for others to view or delete:
OFFER
WANTED
TAKEN
RECVD (or RECEIVED)
Your Home (Location) is **required** at the end of the subject line for all posts submitted to encourage local gifting. Feel free to include the nearest cross-streets.
USE THE ABOVE KEYWORDS ONLY
DO NOT USE: Reoffered, Repost, Needed, Pending Pickup.
EXAMPLES -- with (Location: and/or nearest cross-streets)
OFFER: Birdcage (Tacoma)
TAKEN: Birdcage (Tacoma)
WANTED: Moving boxes (6th & Jackson)
RECEIVED: Moving Boxes (6th & Jackson)
ADMIN: For moderators' messages to all members -- please read.
(Location) is **required** at the end of **all** subject lines.
NOTE: DO NOT USE "PENDING" OR "PENDING PICKUP" IN THE SUBJECT LINE! Please put "pending" or "pending pickup" in the BODY of your message!!

3) TAKEN posts -- Lets members know your item is no longer available.
***Do *not* include "Pending pickup" or "PPU" in your subject line.

4) RESALE of OFFERS
A seller may only respond to an OFFER with full disclosure of their intent to sell the item. ***For example, a non-profit group might respond seeking items for a fund-raiser.

5) Safety: Exchange addresses and phone numbers in private email, not in posts to the group.

(6) We just wanted to remind everyone of a few details that are sometimes overlooked. Please take a few minutes to read the following:

Fireworks
Money (no offering to pay for or sell an item, or delivery fees),
Vitamins and Prescription Drugs (of any kind),
Cosmetics (of any kind, including all creams, lotions, oils, etc.)
Coupons & Tickets,
*WANTEDS* for Food (for human and animal consumption)
*WANTEDS* for Disposable Diapers,
*WANTEDS* for Pets,
*WANTEDS* for Plants & Seeds,
Discussions,
Selling,
Trade/Barter,
Borrowing,
Services,
Politics,
Religion,
Adult Content,
Spam,
No personal attacks or rudeness, or correcting another member's list etiquette.
It's all about R-E-S-P-E-C-
No use of email footers, taglines, signature lines and/or footers that contain business information, addresses, phone numbers, websites, links, or blogs advertising. They WILL be edited at the moderator's discretion.
All items must be free -- no strings attached.
Do not contact members except to respond to an OFFER or a WANTED, including mass email. Do not add members to your address book unless you've established a mutual relationship with them.
This is by no means a complete list. Moderators reserve the right to add items as they deem necessary.

(7) Guns, Ammunition, or Any Type of Weapon
It is against Freecycle policy to post guns or ammo. One of the rules of Freecycle(TM) is that everything must be appropriate for all ages, which ammunition clearly is not. But if someone wanted to pass on used shell casings or cloth wads or a reloader machine or something like that, well I don't see the harm. Gunpowder, black powder, live ammo, pistols, rifles, grenades etc. cannot be posted. There are plenty of boards and groups dedicated to shooting sports and weapons in general.

(8) POLICY FOR 'WANTED' POSTS
The guideline on placing 'Wanted' posts is no more than 3-4 'Wanted' posts per 7 days. When a member tries to post more than 4 'Wanted' posts, a denial email will be sent to the member reminding them of the guideline. If a member habitually goes over the number of 'Wanted' posts, we reserve the right to put the member on moderation.

(9) BLANKET WISH LISTS
Long list of items in a 'Wanted' post will be returned for editing by the member. We ask that you submit one item per 'Wanted' post.
Ok to post:
Wanted: Sewing items (Tacoma)
Looking for needles and thread.
NOT ok:
Wanted: Sewing items (Tacoma)
Looking for needles, thread, fabric, sewing machine, quilting machine, or anything else you have for sewing.

THANK YOU for reading this far. We know there are a lot of rules, but they're designed to keep this list functioning and flowing. These rules do seem to head off a lot of potential trouble. This is a really nice group, and by practicing these rules, it can only get better!
