Hello Freecycle(TM) Members!
There's a new chat feature for Yahoo! Groups!!!
Apologies for an unscheduled ADMIN, but we wanted to let everyone know about an exciting feature to our site.
We have had several members inquire as to whether we plan to allow our group to use the new chat feature that Yahoo! Groups have created. We feel that this feature would be better used in our Cafe rather than the parent group.
If you would like to talk to other members of our group that are part of our community, please join our Cafe. Once there, you will see a link on the left side of the site that you can click to join the chat room.

If we start getting complaints that members are abusing this feature, we will shut it down. There will be no Moderators in the chat room to monitor the discussions so please be the kind, considerate, community that we know you are. As this is an age appropriate site, Yahoo! Groups have made it so no one under the age of 18 is allowed in the chat rooms. They go by birthday that was used at the time you signed up for your email account.
If you see inappropriate messages in chat, as a member, you can take the following actions:
· "Mute" the user: You can make messages from a particular user disappear from your viewing window by selecting the Mute button that appears when you mouse over the user's profile in the list of who is the group. Until you "unmute" the user, you will not see any of messages he or she writes. Please note that other members of the group will still see messages from the user.
· Contact your group's Moderators: You can send the Moderators an email at the owners email address if you find that a member is being inappropriate. Please make sure to send us the username that was used in the chat room. The Moderators have the ability to temporarily ban a member from the chat room or if there is cause to permanently remove them, they must be removed from the Cafe.
We know that we have a wonderful group of members so we are willing to try out the chat feature on the Cafe. We hope everyone has a wonderful experience with it. Feel free to let us know what you think about it by either sending an email to the Moderators or in a post on the Cafe.
