Dear Freecycle(TM) Members,

Our thriving group has 6078 members and counting!

We have an assortment of topics to share with you, please read each short bit.

COUPONS

Please bear in mind that Freecycle's mission is to divert usable items from the landfill. We are first and foremost an environmental group concerned with reducing the footprint of our landfills. Because of this, coupons are no longer allowed to be posted on the Freecycle site. Instead, we ask that you post them on our Café group.

This includes, but is not limited to, Coupons, Bottle Caps, Miles, Proof of Purchases, Campbell Soup Labels, BoxTops for Education, Codes, Pre-Paid Minutes, Certificates and Tickets.

The Tacoma Area Freecycle Café is a place where you can offer coupons, share links, services, resources, community agencies, volunteer opportunities, trade, or barter.

A FEW WORDS FROM OUR MEMBERS

"Perhaps you could post another warning about checking the spam folder, and adding people you reply to on your contact list. If you don't, the answers to your replies may be sent to spam and you don't get them if you don't check the spam folder. This week I have had several who have written to tell me the item was mine and when I reply as to when and where, I never hear from them again."

"Please use caution when Offering or Receiving a used car seat. Make sure it has not been in an accident. If it is being used for a child, be educated! The safety standards state that it should be less than 10 years old to be considered safe."

Member #3 wrote:
"Please ask people to offer their items to one person at a time. There have been many times when I think I have been chosen but then am told later that they gave the item to someone that got back to them quicker. Not everyone sits at their computer 24/7."

Member #4 wrote:
"I think a gentle reminder or suggestion for our Freecycle members is to remember our purpose of keeping things out of the landfill. I have read some offer posts stating if not picked up that they will send it to the dump!!! Why not give it to goodwill or some charitable group of choice?"

A few members wrote in inquiring about posting multiple items. If you have multiple items to offer, you can post them in separate messages. However, please consider putting similar items into one message and numbering your items for clarity.

WANTEDS
Freecycle is NOT a gigantic free department store. Try to limit the number of wanteds to no more than 3-4 per 7 days and keep them reasonable. We're not here to furnish your apartment or house. Freecycle is not a charity, nor is it a place to ask for help. Keep the long stories out of the Wanteds.

It is OK to say you need a thingamabobie.
It is NOT OK to say that hubby lost his job, the dog died and your four kids need a purple grey thingamabobie for school.

The body of the post is used to describe the items. Think of it like this... If you went to a department store and had to describe the item you were looking for to a salesperson, you would use a description of the item, not a story of why you are looking for it.

Just ask, no story needed.

Offer:  Propane BBQ- W. Tacoma

We have a Sunbeam Grillmaster propane BBQ w/side burner to offer. We got a new BBQ so we don't need it. It's about 3 years old.

It works just fine, but the heat shield needs to be replaced, as does the electric ignition switch, which hasn't worked pretty much since we got it. We use one of those long lighters to start it which works great. It could use a good cleaning though.

I would like to be rid of it by tomorrow. Thanks!

I have a box of food from my pantry that I don't seem to need cause I still haven't used it. This is all dry goods ranging from rice, pasta, cereal, milk (not dry) in little juice cartons, and whatever else non-perishable that I put in there. Please take everything and freecycle what you don't want or need.

1 can unopened expires this month, this is the prescription kind but can mix with the current formula you are feeding. Enfamil-for babies with colic or cows milk allergy. don't need, soy worked for us.
